The Cook Family

For years, Adelaide’s family searched for answers.

Since she was an infant, Adelaide has faced a series of unexplained health challenges. Nearly a dozen specialists, countless tests, surgeries, therapies, and hospital stays brought more questions than answers. Despite every effort, her family never stopped hoping they would one day understand the “why” behind her medical struggles.

That hope led them from northeastern Oklahoma to Children’s Medical Center Dallas in August 2024, when Adelaide was 11 years old. While they believed they were finally in the right place for her care, they also worried about the financial burden of frequent travel and extended hospital stays.

Just one month later an unexpected week-long hospitalization connected them to Ronald McDonald House of Dallas—a connection that would change their journey in ways they never imagined.

Since then, the House has become much more than a place to stay. It has become a true home away from home.

“Every time we walk through the front doors, we are greeted by familiar friendly faces and warm welcomes,” Adelaide’s family shares. “The House has given us a place where we can rest, recharge, and simply focus on what matters most—our daughter.”

Today, Adelaide, now 13, finally has answers. She has been diagnosed with a rare colonic motility disorder and now has a dedicated care team helping manage her condition. While her journey continues, she is doing better than her family ever anticipated.

Living with a chronic medical condition can be exhausting, frightening, and full of uncertainty. Through every appointment, treatment, and hospital stay, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas has helped ease the burden by providing comfortable accommodations, warm meals, and a supportive community—allowing Adelaide’s family to focus their time, energy, and resources on her healing.

“Our hearts overflow with gratitude for the kindness we have experienced from everyone at the House, from McDonald’s, and from every member of Adelaide’s care team,” her family says.

For families like Adelaide’s, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas provides more than a place to stay. It provides comfort, stability, hope, and the chance to focus on what matters most—helping a child heal.
