When Victoria was just a couple of months old her parents noticed she was an unusually still and calm baby. Family members encouraged them to have a doctor check her out and they discovered that she has SMA Type 1 (Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1).
The Lazo family is originally from Laredo, Texas which is about 8 hours away from Dallas. Victoria’s mom has been a high school History teacher for the last 15 years and her dad gave up working to care for Victoria when she was first diagnosed.
Victoria comes to Ronald McDonald House Dallas at least twice a year, and she always looks forward to visiting. She is described as sassy and talkative by her parents and she loves exploring the house in her wheelchair. The Lazo family is grateful to have a place to stay together so close to the hospital that provides meals.
